Storagecraft: P2V Troubleshooting

Gen 1 troubleshooting

• VHDx needs MBR
• No additional partitions needed other than main - delete any other partitions
• Use BCU to repair (may need to do twice if cursor blinks - may need to repair MBR - https://support.storagecraft.com/s/article/Windows-System-Unable-to-Boot-After-Storagecraft-Restore?language=en_US
• P2V: Use Hardware Independent Restore (HIR)

Gen2 troubleshooting

• VHDx needs to be GPT
• Use combo of Recovery Environment (RE) and MiniTool (MT) Partition Wizard (GPT conversion) - ISOs loaded into 
• EFI partition needs to be in front - initialized as EFI partition - use BCU auto repair (https://support.storagecraft.com/s/article/Boot-Configuration-Utility-Throws-0x44?language=en_US - and - https://support.storagecraft.com/s/article/Boot-Configuration-Utility-throws-Installation-Failed-1005-0x46?language=en_US)
• Note: Initialization, BCU auto repair may need series of reboots (one step at a time) - issue with RE
• P2V: Use HIR
• V2V: HIR shoud not be needed
• Server 2016/2019 or Windows 10: Try without HIR first

Server 2012 R2

• Convert to Gen1 (initially) then to Gen2 (close down, use MT to convert MBR to GPT, RE to UEFI boot)
